Early Spring Recap

With spring in full swing and Juel Park finally draining all that water, there has been a lot of disc golf action out on the course in April and May.

Changes to Juel Park Course

As another great season approached, changes to the Juel Park course were being completed by the City of Redmond in early April. Between a basket move, trimming of dead trees and limbs, and the addition of new out of bounds and mandatory signs on a couple holes, the course is shaping up for some different play this year.

This includes more friendly hyzer and straight lines opening up on holes 2/11 and 3/12. More airspace was made available for shots on hole 17 with some branches trimmed down and also on hole 9/18 as the basket was moved towards the road and away from the area that floods near the trees.

A couple meetings with the city happened in April and May to learn about their future plans and coordinate involvement in the course from the Kokanee Disc Golf Club. As a result of those discussions the first Course Cleanup event was held on May 19th with 4 members joining to help pick up dead, downed branches and clean up various areas around a couple greens.

Return of Juel Random Dubs

The Juel Random Doubles League started a new season on May 6 and has seen a solid turnout through the first 5 weeks. A total of around 20 unique players have participated so far, including both returning regulars and newcomers alike.

Winning scores continue to hit double digits most weeks with -13 being the top score so far, hit multiple times so far this season. With cash and prize CTPs included each week, not to mention a healthy ace pot, the competition is looking to keep this great momentum going to into the sunnier summer days ahead.

What’s next for Summer

Looking ahead to the hotter weather, the Kokanee Disc Golf Club has a few events in the making.

Throw for More Fundraiser

Join local players at Juel Park to fundraise for the Paul McBeth Foundation on June 20th during the global Throw for More event. It’s simple - sign up and record as many rounds as you can using the UDisc app. Each round recorded means UDisc will donate $0.10 to the Paul McBeth Foundation. You can also get pledges from family and friends to fundraise even more!

Tentative Blythe Squad x Juel Dubs

Every year as the Girl Scouts and Camp Fire Program take over Blythe Park for a couple weeks in the summer, the Wednesday Random Doubles League at Juel Park becomes a Blythe Squad x Juel Dubs collaboration. More competition, unique course play and plenty of fun. Dates and details are tentative, but mark your calendars and stay tuned for more as we get closer to the end of July.

Course Cleanup Sequel

The City of Redmond is interested in combining the clubs clean up efforts with some of their own maintenance team for another work party to make Juel Park shine even more. Dates and other details are still pending. Connect via email or on Discord to stay updated on this event hopefully coming this summer.

It has been a great start to the year and looking to get even better as we get into June and beyond. A huge thanks to everyone who has come out for Random Dubs, joined the work party and continued to be a part of the club activities!

If you haven’t already, head over to the Connect page to engage with the club members and activities. See you out on the course! 🥏
